Moroccan culture feels a world away from clean city life of London, belying its short three and half hour flight from London. I visited with my girlfriend and we really enjoyed wandering through the endless warrens of souks (indoor markets), haggling for gifts, getting a hammam (scrub massage), and visiting Yves Saint Larent’s Majorelle botanical garden. We also had one of my most memorable meals at a restaurant we stumbled upon, Dar Yacout.
Frustratingly for us photographers, the locals don’t like their photos taken. But the place was teeming with cats who didn’t seem to mind.
Marrakech is a charming but busy place, particularly if you stay near the center as we did. We found a long weekend there was enough, and returned greatful of the visit and the contrast in cultures.
