My good friends Tom and Puja decided to get married in Chianti, Tuscany in the summer of 2013. Tuscany was an area of Italy I had visited as a boy and longed to return to. It has to be one of my favourite parts of the world. With rolling hills, stunning vistas and endless charm of the towns and villages, delicious food and wine, there’s not much to dislike about Tuscany. The wedding was held at the Castello de Meleto, an idyllic castle propped up on a hill deep in the countryside where over 150 wedding guests would meet.
Before meeting there we flew into Florence and explored the orange-walled streets, churches and river. We caught views of the city skyline from Abbazia di San Miniato al Monte. Afterwards we headed south in a Fiat 500 along sweeping hillside roads, hurriedly searching for a wine shop before the pre-wedding party, only to find a rustic vineyard where we bought good wine directly from the vineyard’s owner.
The wedding was nothing short of perfect.. apart perhaps from the sweltering heat in our suits! The location, good friends, food and more wine, you couldn’t ask for more.
After the wedding we visited the stunning town of Sienna before flying out. A perfect way to end a perfect long weekend.
